*Originally Published on February 8, 2011*

A night in NYC doesn’t require high heels or a button down shirt. The best nights are the ones in your favorite jeans with great company, in your choice of foot attire because there is no dress code to comply with. If you’re looking to add a twist or a great spot to play catch up with an old friend, opt for a Nacho Night.

And well if you want to have great nachos, Mexican is definitely the way to go. So select a margarita and devour those nachos on a self-proclaimed Mighty Margarita and Nacho Noche day.

Give a Dunce a Bone

Our YNY Bonehead of the Week goes to….Keith Gruber!

Arriving late to your court hearing for a DWI felony charge is not the right foot to start on. Perhaps Keith Gruber was confused at which foot to start with when he showed up late and drunk. It seems that arriving with an open can of Bush beer and four other closed cans (because one might get thirsty while waiting for your case to be called and require proper backup beer to pass the time) doesn’t help your DWI case.

Sneaker Con NYC 2011 Video

If you missed out on Sneaker Con 2011 appearance in New York, no worries, we captured it on tape for you to see. Last Saturday Sneaker Con NYC 2011 gave sneaker obsessors a chance to buy/sell/trade sneakers right here in Soho. The line started hours before the event and went down Sullivan Street, along Houston Street, and turned halfway down Thompson Street during the event. That’s three blocks long and hours of waiting just to get in. If you were lucky enough to make your way in, you had to squeeze your way past hungry sneaker fiends and collectors with book bags and duffle bags loaded with exclusive kicks. Vendors sold sneakers, apparel, sneaker accessories, and one vendor was airbrushing hats and t-shirts. Special shout out to Sneaker News and International-hiphop.com for showing some love in the video. Now go check it out!

And if He doesn’t turn their hearts,

So we’ll know them by their limping.”

Deadliest Workplace Fire Approaches 100 year Anniversary Located in LES

The Triangle Factory fire, considered the nation’s deadliest workplace fire, will reach its 100th Anniversary on 28th of March 2011 right here in the Lower East Side of New York City. The tragic death of 146 garment workers was set by a match being dropped on the floor at the Triangle Waist Company’s factory. The fire engine ladders in 1911 were only able to reach the sixth floor leaving workers trapped on the eighth, ninth, and tenth floors desperate. Many images of workers jumping out of the factory located on Greene Street were all too similar to recent memories of those who chose to escape the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 in the same way. In 1911 the New York Times reported, “The crowd yelled “Don’t jump!” but it was jump or be burned — the proof of which is found in the fact that fifty burned bodies were taken from the ninth floor alone. The victims who are now lying at the Morgue waiting for some one to identify them by a tooth or the remains of a burned shoe were mostly girls of from 16 to 23 years of age.”

A PBS special on the Triangle Factory fire was presented through letters of the victims to this fire. The special told tales of young girls who weren’t trying to make money for the club on Saturday night but money that would help support their families. This fire triggered the safe workplace and occupational safety movement. HBO and The Jewish Center are just two groups finding ways to remember the 146 victims for Triangle Waist Co. fire’s 100th year anniversary later this month.
